About LSS

The Center for Learning Support Services (C.L.S.S.)  assists students of all cultures, abilities, backgrounds and identities with enhancing their self-management* and interdependent** learning skills. 

*Self-management skills are defined as dispositions and activities that enable students to plan their work; organize their resources and projects; and exercise judgment / discipline in their personal choices regarding how they spend their time, money and energies.

**Interdependent learning skills are defined as dispositions and behaviors that foster responsible participation in a community, such as a study group, classroom, living community or work environment.

Learning Outcomes for Students Using L.S.S. :

  1. Students will select the main ideas from class lectures and textbooks.
  2. Students will develop plans to accomplish academic work in a timely and effective manner.
  3. Students will create self-tests to manage their own learning.
  4. Students will facilitate self-directed study groups.
  5. Students will create effective recall/retrieval aids.
  6. Students will evaluate their learning styles
  7. Students will apply new learning strategies.

Learning Outcomes for Student Employees  (Learning Support Peers = LSP’s) Working for L.S.S.

  1. LSP’s will apply techniques learned in training sessions during their study sessions.
  2. LSP’s will communicate promptly and effectively with supervisors.
  3. LSP’s will use group participation techniques, when feasible, to encourage interdependent learning.
  4. LSP’s will elicit student feedback to determine student comprehension of the course material.
  5. LSP’s will hear and interpret student questions.
  6. LSP’s will redirect questions back to students to encourage self-reflection, group interaction, and use of resources in problem solving.
  7. LSP’s will comply with policies and procedures for professionalism, confidentiality, data collection, and paperwork submission.
